Webwork Rubric

Take Webwork as an opportunity to practice and hone skills that will serve you in the future:  writing, reading, critical thinking, etc.  Use the following rubric as a roadmap to a happy conclusion to your Webwork.  This document is available for download in MS Word Webwork Rubric :

SCORE DESCRIPTION
4.5-5.0

·         All questions answered.  Thoughts clearly articulated.

·         Clear restatement of question in response:  The student restates question in giving responses.  Q=What color is the Sky?  A= The color of the sky is blue.

·         Explicit use of supporting details to back up answer:  The student’s response most likely includes skillfully woven in direct quotes or supporting text from background material in the answers. When appropriate, the student has made relevant and meaningful connections in the question to their personal experience, the bigger picture, or the world at large.

·         Few if any grammatical and/or mechanical errors noted.  The student demonstrates clear evidence of editing.

·         Extra effort noted.  The student has worked “above and beyond the call of duty” on this assignment.

4.0-4.49

·         All questions answered

·         Mostly clear restatement of question in response.  The student restates question in giving responses.  Q=What color is the Sky?  A= The color of the sky is blue.

·         Some use of supporting details to back up answer:  Occasionally the student strives to include a direct quote or piece of supporting text to answer the question.  When appropriate, perhaps the student has mad some relevant and meaningful connection to their personal experience, the bigger picture, or  the world at large. 

·         Some grammatical and/or mechanical errors noted.  Perhaps a little more editing time prior to submitting work would solve this problem

·         Average to Satisfactory effort noted. 

3.0-3.9

·         Most questions answered and/or partial responses to questions noted.

·         Vague restatement of question in most responses.  Perhaps some questions are restated, some are not. 

·         Little evidence of supporting details from text or background reading to back up answer.  The student’s response is perhaps based on opinions and feeling and contains phrases such as “I think” and “I feel” when personal opinion has not been indicated as part of the response. Perhaps inappropriate or irrelevant personal connections made.  Perhaps some  understanding of the larger context of the questions demonstrated.

·         Many grammatical and/or mechanical errors noted.  Little or no editing done prior to response.  Self-editing skills need to be learned, practiced, and applied.  Perhaps work is difficult to read and errors distract reader’s attention.

·         Marginal effort noted.  Score could be dramatically improved with more effort.  

2.0-2.9

·         Few questions answered and/or partial/incomplete responses to questions noted. 

·         No restatement of question in response:  Q=What color is the Sky?  A= Blue.

·         Little or no evidence of supporting details from text or background reading to back up answer.  The student’s response is perhaps based on opinions and feeling and contains phrases such as “I think” and “I feel” when personal opinion has not been indicated as part of the response.  Perhaps some/all of the responses are one word or little more in length.  Perhaps inappropriate or irrelevant personal connections made.  Little  understanding of the larger context of the questions demonstrated.

·         Many grammatical and/or mechanical errors noted.  Little or no editing done prior to response.  Self-editing skills need to be learned, practiced, and applied.  Difficult to read.  Errors distract reader’s attention.

·         Minimal effort noted. 

0.0-1.9

·         Little if any of the assignment has been completed.

·         No restatement of question in responses

·         No evidence of supporting details in responses.  Inappropriate or irrelevant personal connections made.  No  understanding of the larger context of the questions demonstrated.

·         Too many grammatical and/or mechanical errors noted.  No evidence of editing.

·         Sub-standard effort.   Seek help if assignment is unclear.  Schedule a conference with the teacher.
