Language Arts:

 East Coast Trip:   This is the place to go for information about the annual trip to the East Coast.  If you like to travel and see exciting new places, people, and things, consider joining Ms. Manwell and other Skyridge and Liberty students on the trip of a lifetime this June. This trip coincides perfectly with the 8th grade American history curriculum and is a wonderful enrichment opportunity for students.  Destinations on this year's trip include New York City, Gettysburg, PA, Washington, D.C., and Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia.  

Bibliography Patterns:  Did you misplace your Bib. Sheet? Print another copy right now!

Picture Bibs:  Don't forget to give credit for the pictures and images you use.

Citation Machine: Get basic help compiling your MLA bibliography.

Debate:  For resources and links to help you be successful in this year's Constitutional Debates, navigate to this page.  Other helpful references include the Debate Guidelines Book, the Research Notes SheetsSpeech Outline, and Speech Revision Guide.

American Library Association Book Lists:  Ever wondered what librarians are recommending students read these days? You'll find all kinds of book lists on this site, from young adult pick to college bound musts.  Great resource for the avid or budding reader.

Merriam Webster's Word Central:  A hip and happening place to learn about new words, look up ones you'd like to learn, and have fun.   This is where you subscribe to the free Daily Buzzword.

The Glory Field:  Our final novel unit of the year is a piece of historical fiction taking students through 250 years of American history.

Literature Response Circles:  This site runs down the basics of our class "LRC's", including a philosophy behind this practice and what students and teachers might hope to see as a result of having used them.  There's also helpful links to reviews of the books we have in our LRC library.

Semantic Rhyming Dictionary:   This site will search for rhymes to words of your choice in ways that will astound you.

Great Books Online:  This is an on-line collections of some of the greatest literary works every penned.

Social Studies:

Skyridge Social Studies Book Online:  Instead of lugging your book home every night or as needed, simply logon and view it online.  How cool is that?   For the user name: AHEY.  Your password is:  c3aCh7nUsw (case sensitive).  From the pull down menu select:  American History the Early Years to 1877

US History Reference Site:   This is an extremely comprehensive and well organized site on topics of interest in American history.  Check it out. 

The History Channel: This Day in History  Ever wondered what happened today in history?  Here's where you can get the answers to your questions, including what happened on your birthday, etc.  If you're not happy with that site, sample some of the other entrees from this list of other "this day" sites:  Yahooligans: This Day in History   New York Times: On This Day   Life Magazine: This Day in Life   American Memory: Today in History   Life Magazine: Picture of the Day

Colonial America Bookmarks  For general reference on the Colonies, navigate to this site; it is chock full of all you'd ever want to know about Colonial America.  See examples of actual colonial newspapers, get information on the 13 Colonies, research culture, etc.   

American Revolution Links  Are you looking to brush up on your knowledge of the American Revolution?  This hotlist of websites and web directories will get you going down the right path.

This Week in the Civil War:  Have you ever been kicking around the house wondering what happened this week in the Civil War?  I know I have.  Here's where you can get the answers to your questions.

Bookmarks for the Civil War  Check out what you have always been dying to know about the Civil War.

Columbus and Navigation:   Learn how ol' Chris got the tools and skills he needed to deliver him towards our shores in his bid to plunder and maraud established cultures in the pursuit of gold and glory.

An Abridged History of United States:   Looking for a little "light" reading on American history?  Here's the place to go.

World Fact Book:   This is the CIA's research on various countries/nations of the world.  Here you'll find everything you wanted to know about country "X" ... and probably a little more.

CIA's Homepage For Kids:   Lot's of information about intelligence, as perceived by the CIA.  Isn't that an oxymoron?
